Inspiration

I was doom‑scrolling the App Store at 2 a.m. after yet another caffeine‑fueled coding sprint, hunting for anything that might help me fall asleep faster. Every app prmised “perfect sleep,” yet all I got were recycled playlists and ads for premium subscriptions. I kept thinking, If music can be so personal when I’m awake, why is it one‑size‑fits‑all when I’m trying to sleep? That qestion is what really sparked Drowsii.

What it does

Drowsii creates a made‑for‑you uber customizable soundscape that actually adapts to your sleep style. A quick 20‑questin quiz matches you with the ideal noise color (white, pink, or brown) and lets you layer in nature accents—ocean wves, whispring wind, light rain—until it sounds just right. Everything runs offline, loops seamlessly, and remembers your favorites, so bedtime becomes press‑play‑and‑relax instead of scroll‑scroll‑scroll.

How we built it

We built the app using Swift and XCode developer tools. To tie in Riffusion, we used Python to create a pseudo-API.

Challenges we ran into

Honestly, this entire app was a challenge. We pulled 2 all-nighters just to make it happen. The quiz had many frontend issues, and we also ran into the problem of an almost unprofessional look to the project. Also, finding an API that was free was a challenge, especially for the feature that creates sound. For creating sound, we eventually resorted to just creating our own API by making use of the open source model "Riffusion" and we got it done after a tiring night.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we actually were able to create the app because it's something we've been trying to make for a long time. Additionally, we're very proud that we managed to truly create a fully custom experience that's tailored to every individual user.

What we learned

We feel like we genuinely relearned how to use Swift by implementing Gemini and Riffusion and everything. Other than that we really learned the importance of sleep after creating this project, especially because of our citations in the presentation.

What's next for Drowsii

Adaptive mixing – Pull heart‑rate and movement data from wearables to auto‑tweak volume, tempo, and intensity in real time. Community sound‑share – Let users publish favorite mixes and upvote the most calming combos. Multi‑modal relaxation – Add gentle breath‑coaching, bedtime stories, and maybe a game to wind down screens.
