Inspiration
We wanted to create a world that captures the joy of quick cooperation without requiring complex mechanics or long explanations. Many mobile-first VR experiences struggle with clarity and pacing, so our goal was to build something instantly understandable, replayable, and energetic. DropZone Rush grew from the idea of “what if a whole arena depended on everyone scrambling together?”.
What it does
DropZone Rush is a fast-paced cooperative collection game. Energy cores fall from the sky, players grab them, and deliver them to the DropZone to score points. Individual scores track personal performance, while a global score pushes the entire world through dynamic “Tier Levels” that trigger visual and ambient changes. The experience combines competition, cooperation, and light chaos in a mobile-friendly package.
How we built it
The world is built using Horizon Worlds Desktop Edition (v240). We implemented a randomized spawn system for falling objects, a delivery trigger system, and per-player persistent scores using PPVs. Global progress is tracked with a world-level PPV that drives tier events. A lightweight HUD was created with Custom UI, and system popups are used to highlight major events. Leaderboards and achievements use Horizon-provided gizmos for consistency and performance.
Challenges we ran into
Handling per-player variables without hitting server-player conflicts required careful event routing. Creating a clean mobile-friendly HUD and dealing with emoji/font compatibility also took iteration. Balancing spawn rates and visibility on mobile headsets was another key challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We achieved a fully functional cooperative loop, responsive UX, smooth mobile performance, and a clear visual identity. The world feels alive and readable even during chaotic play.
What we learned
We learned how to structure reactive systems with Horizon’s PPVs, how to build reliable UI bindings, and how to optimize interactions and visuals for mobile-first VR.
What's next for DropZone Rush: Cooperative Chaos
Future updates may include limited-time events, cosmetic unlocks, seasonal modes, and expanded world reactions tied to community milestones.
