Inspiration
A friend and I ran a popup shop in downtown Urbana called the nifty nook ( a shop that took the work of 64 local artists and sold them to the public during the holidays. ) the problem was it took weeks to collect all their art. and that's because people have lives and it's really hard to deviate more than 15 mins. so why not just have a secure place where they can drop off stuff easy peasy?
the goal is to help people exchange things easier and with no contact hense covid
What it does
I designed lockboxes that can be open using an app over Bluetooth. they are custom sizes and I have partnered with local businesses to host them. the best feature is the peer 2 peer features these boxes can be open by more than one person and that is predetermined in the app.
How I built it
A friend helped me fabricate a wooden box with electronic lock hardware. i fitted it out with a smart microcontroller to add Bluetooth functionality to work with the app.
I built the app to walk people through the process of reserving the box. think uber!
Challenges I ran into
Wifi was off the table. there are so many companies with different wifi and they change passwords. so i needed the boxes to be deployed quickly and easily.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
the app worked and people have given me so many use cases, libraries, moms with errands, online shops, etc.
What I learned
What's next for Dropeer
launch a beta soon! and build more boxes.
