Inspiration
We got inspired to create Drop.Info because we noticed that people were using clunky and inconvenient solutions like Facebook Messenger and shared Google Docs to share stuff that would generally go on a napkin or index card. This includes bits of conversation, business cards, notes, etc. We believed we could attack this pain point.
What it does
Drop.Info allows users to quickly create index-card-sized pages of information about anything and share them with a short link. These posts, or cards, will be in the style of a business card/landing page, with about 1 screen of space that users can fill with business details, short bios, contact information, notes, and more.
How we built it
We built a web app frontend using vanilla Javascript and MVP.CSS, and a simple backend using Java.
Challenges we ran into
Designing the mockups and API was hard - we realized that user accounts would double the amount of API calls! Writing all the CSS and figuring out image and file processing libraries was also laborious.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working, beautiful website up at its own live domain! Visit it here: http://drop-info.live
What we learned
We learned about product development and iteration, as well as the intricacies of Java web development and package management with Maven.
What's next for Drop.Info
If we could rewrite the whole thing in Node.js and scale it, we would. But this would take an ungodly amount of effort... maybe during the summer?
