Inspiration

The idea for DroneSquares came after meeting with the President of OnPoynt Aerial Solutions in person. His passions and visions on the future on drones influence me in regard to actively outreach to the public to promote the availability of drones.

The application focused on connecting drone users with drone owners to satisfied the needs for drone enjoyment without paying with the ownership of drones. The application is designed to catered to drone enthusiasts. There are several functionalities to connect drone users and owners.

What it does

Here are the stories of two users of DroneSquares:

My name is Amy. I am a 18 years old college student with a keen interest in aerial photography. My dream is to fly a drone to take pictures. Being a full time college student, a drone that costs thousand dollars would be too expensive for me to afford. I wished I can borrow a drone with a small fee where I can take beautiful pictures.

My name is Jake. I am a 21 years old college student who owned a DJI Phantom 3 for recreational use. My drone is great for taking pictures, but I always wish to fly a TEAL drone that can go as fast as 80 mph. Also showing off with a racing drone can really impressed my friends, and especially, my girlfriend.

What this application can provide is to let Amy to borrow Jake's drone with a small fee upon request, and if accepted, Jake can gather enough money to afford a TEAL drone that he always wants. Jake can then have a good time with his girlfriend flying his new TEAL drone..

How we built it

DroneSquares have the best of both worlds. Web application and Mobile Application. All of three of us are full stacks developers on both web and mobile, so we actively involved in all aspects of the applications. We used various tools like IDEs such as Android Studio and Databases such as MySQL are utilized.

Challenges we ran into

We are working on both web and mobile app concurrently, that's take up a lot of more work than teams mainly focus on just web app or mobile app. When we do rotation from backend development to client-side mobile development , we have to communicate clear on the parts we worked on. We support both web and mobile because we want availability both because users deserve to request drones with convenience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Both Web Application and Mobile Application for users because we focus on providing a user-centered design. We are proud that our applications would be able to bring educational opportunities for to students to gain more knowledge and experiences.

What we learned

We gained a lot of experience on time allocation and management. We greatly improve our skills on design, technical aspects. We learned that it is not a walk in the park to develop both web and mobile applications in 24 hours.

What's next for DroneSquares

Hiring firms specialized on user experience and marketing to officially recognized as a legal entity in the state of Texas. Our ultimate goal is to extend DroneSquares internationally to other countries.
