Inspiration
The 1980's era has a vibrant appeal with its unique aesthetic of sci-fi and Fantasy themes all through the movies and games that released at the time. Movies like the "Back to the Future" trilogy inspired our theme of our sprites that we used for the game and the endless, skill based and well timing mechanics for our game were inspired by the how the games felt at the time.
What it does
Swerve, drift, and future boost to out-drive competing racers and get the highest score. Utilize your future-bending, era-traversing, time-traveling car to blast into the future and get an even higher score.
How we built it
We utilized Unity's 2D engine to create our retro-style game
Challenges we ran into
GitHub merging caused us some setbacks as we merged our files with one another. We also lost time working on mechanics we did not have the time to fully develop.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All of our sprites were made by the team within the duration of the hackathon.
What we learned
Our project included a lot of different topics: procedural generation, game states, player states, tile maps, and more. This project allowed us to learn about and implement these concepts which are vital to any well-made video game.
What's next for Driving game :
From the start of making our game we wanted it to be possible for non-playable cars to interact with the road and the obstacles on it, so moving forward we would like to implement AI car controls to allow the cars around the player to dodge obstacles and try to ram into the player.
