Inspiration Living in a world facing the ever-increasing effects of climate change and growing up with car-centric infrastructure as the default left us wondering what can be done to make living in a modern city more enjoyable and sustainable. What it does The website informs users about the problems and dangers of car dependency, as well as proposes sustainable alternatives that we can implement now. How we built it We build the website using the React framework, as well as the Tailwind CSS library. We utilized Microsoft Excel, plotly.js, Google colabs, and Python libraries (pandas, seaborn, and matplotlib) for data processing, analysis, and visualization. This website was created by a team of first-time Hackers. Challenges we ran into We had trouble figuring out the theme of the website. Also, it was challenging to navigate new libraries and frameworks. Often time problems boil down to having to lookup syntax to implement specific things. Accomplishments that we're proud of Frankly, we’re proud of everything we accomplished. As all first time hackers, we came into this nervous and unsure of what to expect. Our web team made our website from just react bootstrap despite having little to no experience with React and JavaScript. Our data team gained exposure to the struggles of finding, sorting, gaining insights from, and visualizing data while also being beginners in the topics. What we learned We learned to use framework and libraries to build a website. We also practiced using git and its version control system in high-stress environment. What's next for Driving Change: Navigating Car Dependency with Transit We plan to improve our website and host it as a resource for people to learn more.
