Inspiration

Traffic on the roads is getting worse every day, causing delays, stress, and wasted fuel. Traffic lights and outdated road systems can’t react fast enough to accidents or jams, and emergency services often face delays. We wanted to create a solution that makes roads safer, faster, and smarter.

What it does

DriveWatch AI detects traffic issues like accidents, lane closures, and blockages in real time. When an accident happens, it alerts emergency contacts, first responders, and updates navigation apps like Google Maps to help prevent traffic jams and reroute vehicles efficiently.

How we built it

We combined AI-powered vehicle damage detection with real-time data analysis and map integration. Using web and mobile platforms, we built a system that analyzes images or camera feeds, identifies traffic incidents, and automatically sends alerts to relevant contacts and navigation apps.

Challenges we ran into

Detecting accidents accurately was tricky, especially in unusual lighting or when damage was subtle. Integrating real-time notifications with multiple apps and ensuring alerts were delivered quickly also took several iterations to get right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that DriveWatch AI can detect accidents automatically and trigger immediate alerts to emergency contacts and traffic apps. Seeing the AI correctly identify incidents and help prevent traffic jams in tests was a huge milestone.

What we learned

We learned the importance of high-quality data and real-world testing for AI systems. Beyond tech, we gained valuable experience in integrating APIs, designing real-time alert systems, and thinking critically about user safety and traffic flow.

What's next for DriveWatch AI

Next, we want to expand our system to cover pedestrian and workplace accidents, improve AI prediction for potential collisions, and scale it to work across city-wide camera networks to make roads safer for everyone.
