Learning how to drive can be hard sometimes, and very boring. Sitting through virtual events, long meetings, memorizing all the proper rules to follow and how to drive properly—it can get very strenuous. Well, this problem ends now, with our new game, Drivers-Ed But A Game, or DEBAG. With retro-styled pixel art, you can learn how to drive in a fun way, saving a lot of time compared to all those meetings and memorization. In this game, you’ll learn how to properly swerve around cars, follow the speed limit, and a lot more, even with an informational page if you’re stuck! With music made completely from scratch by one of our team members, you can enjoy this great driving simulation for days to come! The game is still currently under development and is in its beta versions, but you can expect many awesome updates coming in the future. For now, you’ll be able to experiment with a sandbox version of the app, where you can learn how to drive the car without constraints. So, make sure to try DEBAG, where you can learn how to drive the fun way.
As this app was fun to make, there were many, many problems we ran into. To begin with, it was insanely hard to come up with a good and creative idea (6 hours actually). As the theme was a little bit, well, unexpected, it took a lot of time to come to a consensus. We all loved video games, so we tried to mix in the autonomous aspect with a fun game, which is how we got our idea of educating people on how to drive. However, this was not an easy thing to make. Our project idea was a lot more complicated and took way more time than we thought it would take. After 7 PM on Saturday, we all went to one of our team members' house and coded all night. We basically only slept for about 1 hour due to the amount of work we needed to put in. We still ended up running into many errors with implementing JPanel, JFrame, JButtons, and much more.
Overall, we learned really great teamwork, leadership, and collaboration skills that we will all use in the future. This was a great experience, and we will definitely build on this app.
