Inspiration
The transportation industry is a major contributor to carbon emissions, and with the rise of e-commerce and online shopping, the volume of deliveries has increased significantly, leading to a corresponding increase in emissions.
A group of transportation and logistics experts recognized the need for a more sustainable solution and began exploring ways to use technology to reduce the carbon footprint of industry deliveries.
By developing a platform that leverages data and analytics to optimize routes, match shipments with available capacity, and reduce empty miles, they believe they can help to reduce emissions while improving efficiency for businesses. The idea of using technology to reduce the carbon footprint of industry deliveries was born out of a recognition of the urgent need to address climate change and a belief in the power of technology to drive more sustainable and efficient transportation practices.
What it does
We made a platform that matches shipping requests from senders with the expectations and capacities of truck drivers, based on factors such as the sender's price range and cargo volume, and the driver's salary range and truck capacity.
- Enable truck drivers to directly connect with shipping parties, eliminating the high cost of intermediaries.
- Truck drivers have access to more opportunities, with the opportunity to match salary expectations far greater than that provided by intermediaries.
- Shipping parties can choose from a greater selection of suitable and highly-rated truck drivers at appropriate prices.
- Through intelligent matching of orders and optimized routes, truck drivers can transport multiple orders at once, allowing them to earn more money on each trip, while shipping parties can save a significant amount of delivery time by matching with available drivers.
- Recipients can monitor shipping details and driver ratings through the app.
Result
Reduced shipping frequency (reducing carbon footprint and improving transportation efficiency) + Truck drivers can pay fewer intermediary fees (e.g. reduced from 10% to 5%) + Shipping parties have more options without paying extra + Shipping parties can view driver ratings (providing assurance for goods).
How we built it
We used the following technologies to build our project:
Webpage
React.js, Vite
Prototype Design
Figma
Challenges we ran into
We had some problems with the topic. Our topic was not mature enough to be implemented in a real world scenario. After the Pitch Clinic session, we successfully upgraded our topic and solved the problems we had.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing the project is the biggest accomplishment for us! We are very proud of the fact that we were able to complete the project in the given time frame.
Also, we have 3 different aspects to present our idea - the website, prototype design and the powerful presentation - all of these are done by our teamwork.
What we learned
We learnt a lot about the transportation industry and the problems it faces. In addition, during the development process, we shared the knowledge about the frontend technologies we used. When making the prototype design, we learnt how to use Figma to make a preliminary design instead of making a real app.
The most important thing we learnt is that we have had a great experience working together as a team! We have learnt how to communicate with each other and how to work together to achieve a common goal.
What's next for DRIVEN - The Delivery Network
With the advantage of our platform's scale and the capability to make appropriate optimizations in contrast to the current broker system, we can reduce carbon emissions while offering drivers and suppliers increased earnings.
In the future, we plan to utilize AI to optimize the matching algorithm and improve efficiency. We will also introduce additional features such as driver credit ratings and cargo tracking. In addition, we aim to expand our product to other industries such as the express delivery sector.
