Car accidents are depressing. Almost every accident on the road can be avoided with the proper guidance. Unfortunately, drunk driving is becoming increasingly common. This was especially impactful as one of the team members recently lost a friend to a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.
What it does
DrinkSmart3 is an app that employs smartwatch technology to promote road safety and accident prevention. The pulse/wellness sensor in smartwatches regularly monitors the heartbeat rate of users to help them DrinkSmart3. With features such as texting/calling an emergency contact or an UBER if blood alcohol content is too high. It combines the three rules of defensive driving. Anticipation, Action, and Prevention. By being prompted by the simple UI, the user can be alerted to their non-sober state, use alternative methods to driving under the influence, and ultimately will prevent them from endangering individuals on the road.
How we built it
We used Android Studio and a few Google API plugins. For UI Design, we used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Challenges we ran into
All of us were new to Android Development and the most difficult obstacle we faced was interfacing the app with the Moto 360 using Android Wear. We were all also very sleepy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Saurabh stayed up all night. Since most of us were new to Android Development, we are proud of the app that we built in such a short time.
What we learned
We learned how to work together to figure out Android Studio and managed to solve some hardware issues. We also learned that the internet is a wonderful source of everything. We learned how to ration our caffeine to stay awake :) and learned to create software where there is close to none to go off of.
What's next for DrinkSmart3
We intend to pursue more research on the topic and target audience, as well as perfect the interface of our application.
