Project Background
Eco-anxiety, also known as climate anxiety or ecological grief, is a growing mental health concern that arises from the fear, stress, and anxiety people feel due to the current and potential impacts of climate change on the planet and society. It is a natural and valid emotional response to the ongoing and future climate-related disasters, loss of biodiversity, and the perceived lack of action from governments and institutions.
Problem Statement
How might we create an app experience that utilizes spontaneity and unexpected moments of delight to promote climate change awareness and engagement, while simultaneously combating symptoms of eco-anxiety?
Research
With our research, we put together two personas-- a primary persona based on an interview and secondary research, and a secondary proto-persona based mainly on secondary research. Our personas can be found on our Figma File Artifacts Page here.
Business Model
A possible nonprofit business model for the adopt-an-iceberg service could be to fundraise through our symbolic adoptions. Additional donations and sponsorships from individuals, corporations, and foundations that are passionate about environmental conservation and climate change research could also increase funding. The service could also offer various levels of symbolic adoption packages, such as basic, premium, and corporate, each with its own set of benefits and recognition. The funds raised could then be used to support ongoing ice research efforts in the polar regions, as well as to maintain and improve the app's functionality and user experience. The nonprofit could also partner with other organizations that share similar goals and values, in order to broaden its reach and impact.
