Inspiration

Travel has always been about more than just where you go — it’s about how a place makes you feel. Whether it’s awe, calm, nostalgia, or joy, those emotional experiences are often the most memorable parts of being somewhere.

But the tools we use today (like Google Maps, Yelp, or TripAdvisor) reduce travel to logistics. They tell you what’s open, what’s cheap, and what’s “popular” — not what’s meaningful.

We wanted to reimagine how we record and revisit the places that shape us. What if you could map the world based on how it made you feel?

What it does

Drift is a mobile app that lets you capture, share, and explore places based on emotional experiences, not just reviews or photos.

Key Features:

  • Emoji-Based Vibe Ratings – Log how a place made you feel using expressive emojis (💭 Reflective, ✨ Inspiring, 🌿 Calm, etc.)
  • Friends Feed – See where your friends have been and what vibes they felt there
  • Recommended Page – Discover new places based on your mood and vibe preferences
  • Profile Map – A personalized “Feelmap” of everywhere you’ve been and the emotional traces you’ve left behind

It’s like journaling, mood-boarding, and travel recs — all in one cozy, expressive space.

How we built It

We used Figma for ideation, wire framing, and prototyping.

Challenges we ran Into

  • Quantifying “vibes” in a way that was structured enough for data but expressive enough for users was hard!
  • Balancing aesthetic design with usability — we wanted the app to feel like a digital zine or travel scrapbook, without overwhelming the user
  • Avoiding feature creep — we had so many ideas, and narrowing it down to our MVP was tough

Accomplishments that we're Proud of

  • Developed a lightweight, intuitive emoji-based vibe tagging system
  • Designed a social feed that feels like a journal, not a performance space
  • Created a new way to think about memory, place, and digital reflection

What We Learned

  • People don’t remember trips by location or rating — they remember how they felt.
  • Emotion is a powerful search filter. “I want to feel inspired” can lead to way more meaningful exploration than “Top 10 things to do.”
  • Designing for emotionally rich experiences takes intention — and it’s absolutely worth it.

What's Next for Drift

  • Group Trip Boards – Collaborative vibe mapping with friends during shared trips
  • Offline Logging – So you can capture vibes even without service
  • Community Feelmap Mode – Explore a city’s emotional layer via public posts (think: “The Most Peaceful Corners in Tokyo”)

We believe Drift can be more than just an app — it can become a movement of mindful, emotional exploration, and a more human way to remember the world.
