Inspiration

Last Halloween wasn't so much fun for us because we couldn't get the dresses we wanted. The new ones were too expensive and we didn't want to repeat the once we wore last year. It is then we realized a strong need for a dedicated platform where we could exchange our dresses. Why just exchange the dresses and not rent it from someone for a couple of bucks? Why just the Halloween dresses and not the graduation gown, the pretty prom dress or a nice looking Armani suit?

What it does

A lot of people want a particular dress for a rare occasion like a prom night or maybe a graduation ceremony. It might be a wasted investment to buy a new dress if you want to wear it only once or twice. Dressly tries to connect the potential suppliers and renters by giving them a unique platform.

How we built it

We build it using AS 3.0 + JDK7. The whole backend is on Firebase. Special thanks to my team members Minah & Melody for their inputs and contributions on the UI and design which based the whole look & feel of the App. We used a lot of Photoshop and other tools for the UI.

Challenges we ran into

Firetime is a Realtime Database with which we can do almost anything we want. But it comes with its own challenges of handling a lot of events and callbacks which makes it tricky to query the data the way we want.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. A functional app with a kick-ass UI.
  2. All components work the expected way.
  3. Too less technical debt.
  4. It can potentially be launched as a product.

What we learned

Firebase Firebase Firebase and obviously you never stop learning and discovering the hidden features of ANdroid Studio.

What's next for Dressly

A global launch!
