Inspiration
Dress For Success With branches in Sydney, Western Sydney, Illawarra and Newcastle-Hunter; each year Dress for Success NSW & ACT supports more than 3,000 women into employment across New South Wales. Our signature Styling service and suite of Career Support offerings aim to help women overcome bias and discrimination when entering or re-entering the workforce - at no cost to the women needing our services. Here, you’ll find ways to support our life-changing services and programs; donate to empower a woman, buy tickets to our upcoming pop-up fashion sales and events, host a fundraiser or clothing drive, and share our campaigns.
What it does
Goal: Create a single, lightweight digital system that embeds clear referral pathways for partner organisations, streamlines client bookings and outreach, coordinates volunteers, and provides staff visibility.
Business Outcomes:
- Earlier and increased referrals from partner agencies
- Increased styling appointments and repeat referrals
- Reduced admin effort for staff
- Consistent volunteer support for client-facing delivery
- Actionable insight into referral sources and engagement
How we built it
We used Copilot to translate the charity directive into a JIRA Epic, multiple themes and stories. We imported a number of pre-defined skills before asking Copilot to use the stories to create plans which were then used to create agents to execute these plans.
Challenges we ran into
We were a little baffled as to how to work collaboratively on the same project using AI without stepping on each other's toes. We originally tried using the Live Share extension for VSCode which didn't seem to work well with Git. Eventually we stopped using Live Share and settled on a divide and conquer approach using Git and verbal communication. This still presented some challenges with merge conflicts however we worked through these.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to collaborate using Github and Copilot to produce a dev-ready web application that meets our goal.
What we learned
Using generative AI increases productivity if you understand how to approach the task. We also learned that while it can save a developer coding time, merge conflicts and tests still need to be reviewed and resolved.
What's next for dressed-for-success-proto
While dev-ready, there are still a number of improvements and features that could be implemented for the application to be production ready for the customer.
