Inspiration

Did you know it can take up to 766 gallons of water to produce a single t-shirt? And that cute outfit you got last week? It might take longer to decompose than your entire life span. From high energy consumption to excessive water waste, fast fashion has a devastating impact on the environment.

What it does

Dress for Less is a gamified wardrobe app that helps users embrace sustainability while having fun. Unlike traditional dress-up games that promote overconsumption, our platform encourages users to digitize their real-life wardrobe, and make eco-friendly fashion choices.

Players start by uploading photos of their clothes, which are then converted into 3D models using computer vision and opencv. The app provides insights into the carbon footprint of each item, helping users become more mindful of their fashion habits. By logging outfits instead of buying new clothes, players earn "leaves," which can be used to unlock in-game rewards.

Beyond personal styling, Dress for Less also promotes social engagement with features like a leaderboard, clothing donation map, and a local trading marketplace for secondhand clothes. Dress for Less is your go-to for practising sustainability in style.

How we built it

-Python, HTML, CSS

-Computer vision (OpenCV) to detect item type and color from a photo.

-Backend with Amazon S3 (images) and PostgreSQL (users, items, outfits, rewards).

-Geolocation + Google Maps API for donation map.

Challenges we ran into

-Importing 3D models -Accurate CV mapping from a single photo

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Completely hand draw UI/UX -Amazon a3 to store images -Donation map embed

What we learned

-How to embed 3d model on html site -How to embed google maps -How to use computer vision output to customize 3d models
