Inspiration
On an dreamy adventure in Dreamscape, our 2d video game was inspired by students and children who tend to have poor sleep schedules and mental health. The goal of this video game is to guide players through this magical world involving animated characters and their humble home. The game encourages healthy habits by allowing users to engage in activities day and night, visit friends on servers, and design their bedrooms for their little character.
What it does
The game allows you to explore and design your world in the day time, allowing you to buy furniture and visit your bedroom. In the night time, we plan to have users put their character to sleep, and would record data of their sleeping patterns and times. They are also able to play music in the background, which can be adjusted through the settings. Books can be read and tokens can be collected, in order to buy furniture for the player's bedroom and Blind Boxes for the player's character.
How we built it
We built this game using Unity Hub and Figma; Unity to develop the day and night gameplay, and Figma to demonstrate the functionalities of the app.
Challenges we ran into
Because of our minimal experience with the platforms, we ran into issues while making servers for friends to join. However as we develop the game, we hope to create a updated version of the game involving this exciting feature as well as many more updates.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the day and night gameplay, and the use of animations and multiple scenes to demonstrate the different features involved. We hope that through the use of this video game, children and students can find this as a useful app to track their sleep and keep it consistent, while also maintaining healthy habits during the day.
What we learned
We learned the fundamentals of both Unity and Figma, and the use of sprites, animations, gameobjects, buttons, and many more applications that allow us to create a fully functioning game. We learned about what the applications offer and what tools we could use in future projects and updates for our game.
What's next for Dreamscape
The process of developing a game is quite tedious, however with a fully motivated team and a strong mindset, we were able to accomplish more than what we had planned, and look forward to advancing Dreamscape. For the future, we hope to have Dreamscape allow users to interact with others, and have a time synchronization system that would allow the user to align their gameplay with the user's time of day.
