Inspiration

The idea for Dreamscape was sparked by the enchanting charm of snow globes. These delightful objects capture miniature, serene worlds that can be held in the palm of a hand, where a simple shake brings them to life with falling snow and a touch of magic.

Functionality

I wanted to translate this captivating experience into the digital realm using mixed reality, allowing users to not only observe but also interact with and modify their personal dreamscapes. This concept inspired the creation of an immersive environment where users can build worlds as easily as imagining them, integrating both the whimsy of snow globes and the sophisticated potential of mixed reality, and finally visualizing your creations using massive portals in your room.

What I learnt

Developing Dreamscape was a deep dive into learning, especially with the Unity engine and the Meta XR SDK. The exploration into generative AI was particularly enlightening, as it enhanced the world-building process to be more seamless and imaginative. Inspired by the dynamic snow in snow globes, I focused on integrating similar dynamic effects into the miniature worlds of Dreamscape, thereby bringing the worlds alive.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was the integration of generative AI, which involved fine tuning the AI model with datasets from Unity scenes—an endeavour that required significant time and effort. Just by inputting a prompt describing what you would like to see, the gen ai assist correclty instantiates and arranges the models with appropriate scale, and position on top of the surface. You would be able to create villages or forests, depending on your prompt and existing models.

What's next for Dreamscape

Imagine holding a miniature world in your hands, where generative AI not only constructs the landscape but also builds you stories where you can enter and explore? The next stages would be to expand this concept, creating individual mini globes that branch into entire universes of their own, each offering unique adventures and experiences. This vision for the future of Dreamscape pushes the boundaries of mixed reality, making every interaction more personal and magical.
