Taxinsight.io – A Clearer View of Where Your Taxes Go
Inspiration
Back in 2020, during the heat of the election cycle, my best friend and I had a simple conversation that turned into a big realization: most people have no idea where their tax dollars actually go. We kept hearing debates about tax cuts, government spending, and fiscal policy — but when we asked people around us, even smart, engaged voters, they couldn’t tell us much beyond a few headlines.
Fast forward to the 2024 election, and it felt like déjà vu. Again, taxes were a central issue, and again, confusion was everywhere. I had just discovered Bolt, and it hit me — why not build the tool we always wished existed? One that not only breaks down how taxes work, but shows people in real time where their money is going and how legislation could impact them.
This isn’t just about taxes. It’s about empowerment. For too long, the complexity of the tax system has left everyday people in the dark while the well-informed get ahead. We wanted to flip that.
What It Does
Taxinsight.io helps people take control of their financial understanding and civic decisions with a suite of smart, easy-to-use tools:
- Tax Calculator — Estimate your taxes with either a simple summary or a detailed breakdown.
- Spending Breakdown — See exactly how your federal and state tax dollars are spent — by category and department.
- Deduction Estimator — Discover personalized deductions you may be missing, for both individuals and businesses.
- Scenario Comparison — See how policy changes or life events could impact your taxes.
- Tax Glossary — Understand confusing tax terms with plain-language explanations.
- Historical Data — Explore past tax rates and spending to see trends over time.
- Transparency Engine — Track government spending and tax contributions at the national and state levels.
- AI Assistant — Ask questions and get clear, contextual answers on how taxes and policy affect you.
The goal: Help people understand the system they’re part of — and make more informed financial and voting decisions because of it.
