Inspiration
Career discovery is broken. We're forced to make life-altering decisions based on static job descriptions and abstract advice, leading to unfulfilling careers and wasted potential. The inspiration for Dream Job came from a simple question: "Why can't you test drive a career before you commit your life to it?" We wanted to move beyond passive reading and create an active, experiential platform where anyone can feel the reality of their dream job.
What it does
How we built it
Dream Job is an end-to-end career simulation and development platform. A user enters any job title, and our AI instantly generates a realistic "day in the life" simulation, complete with mock emails, team chats, and tasks. From there, the user can jump directly into a live, conversational AI-powered job interview tailored to that specific role. After the interview, the platform analyzes the user's performance and generates a personalized, step-by-step roadmap to help them bridge their skill gaps and land their dream job.
Challenges we ran into
We built Dream Job on a modern web stack, orchestrating multiple best-in-class AI services to create a seamless user experience. The front-end prototype was rapidly developed using the bolt.new environment. The core of the platform is powered by two key AI integrations:
OpenAI's GPT models are used for dynamic content generation, creating the unique "day in the life" scenarios and the final personalized roadmaps.
The Tavus API powers our most innovative feature: the live, conversational AI job interview, allowing for real-time, dynamic interaction.
Our biggest strategic challenge was balancing ambition with quality. Initially, we debated whether to build a generic "any job" engine or perfect the experience for a single role. We solved this by developing a sophisticated prompting strategy that allows the AI to generate high-quality, nuanced content on the fly, giving us the best of both worlds. Technically, orchestrating the smooth handoff between the generative AI (for the simulation) and the conversational AI (for the interview) into a single user journey was a significant integration challenge we were proud to overcome.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of building a platform that goes beyond simple Q&A to create a truly experiential product. Our biggest accomplishment is the successful integration of the live AI video interview, a feature that provides immense value and is technically complex to implement in a hackathon timeframe. We're also proud of the on-the-fly "day in the life" generator, which can create a compelling and realistic simulation for virtually any career a user can imagine, making our platform massively scalable from day one.
What we learned
Throughout this process, we learned that the most powerful "aha!" moment for a user isn't just seeing information, but being put in the driver's seat and asked to make a decision. We also validated our hypothesis that after an experience, users don't just want a score; they want a concrete, actionable plan. This solidified our belief that the future of education and career development lies in a tight loop of "Experience -> Assess -> Plan."
What's next for Dreamjob.site
This hackathon prototype is just the beginning. Our roadmap is focused on building a sustainable, high-value business. The next steps include:
Building out our premium features, such as the paywalled "Interview Debrief" which provides a deep-dive analysis of the user's recorded interview, and the "Curated Roadmap" which offers a human-enhanced plan.
Developing a community, allowing users to share their roadmaps and connect with others on a similar journey.
Creating a mentor marketplace, where users can pay to connect with real professionals in their dream job for advice and guidance.
Expanding our simulation library with even higher-fidelity scenarios and branching narratives to become the definitive platform for career exploration and development.
