Inspiration

This project was inspired by the idea that memories and dreams are essential parts of human identity, and how modern technology can influence the way we store and access those memories. The inspiration also comes from the role of archivists in preserving history and memories from being lost over time, amplified by the concept of a digital virus threatening the survival of collective memory. The futuristic visuals with neon and holograms aim to depict a world where technology and humanity intersect dramatically.

What I Learned

Throughout the development process, this project taught the importance of balancing emotional narrative and visual aesthetics. It involved expressing the protagonist’s internal conflict through lighting, colors, and glitch effects to strengthen the story’s atmosphere. Additionally, the crafting of voice-over narration and pacing provided valuable lessons on immersive storytelling focused on mood.

How I Built the Project

The project was built starting from research on cyberpunk futuristic visuals, character and environment design, to creating an in-depth storyboard to guide visuals and voice-over. Each shot was designed to support the internal narrative of the dream archivist protagonist and the dilemma she faces regarding preserving or releasing precious and vulnerable memories. The use of hybrid CGI and live-action texturing techniques aimed to create a realistic yet surreal aesthetic.

Challenges Faced

One major challenge was maintaining narrative pacing balance so that the audience could feel the emotional conflict without losing interest due to minimal visual changes. Integrating glitch and neon effects naturally without disturbing facial expressions and mood clarity was sometimes difficult. Moreover, scripting concise but meaningful voice-over to align perfectly with visuals to convey the message effectively was also demanding.

Overall, this project is an in-depth exploration of memory, technology, and emotion in a futuristic context, hoping to touch hearts and inspire reflection on what dreams and memories mean to the audience.
