Inspiration
What if exploring a world model felt like a tiny holiday? Dream Island turns curiosity into a playful photo safari.
What it does
Wander a candy-coloured garden, wish for stars, giant flowers or bubbles, and photograph three little wonders: a tiny friend, a dreamy view and a little magic. Label your discoveries, complete your album and download a souvenir. Original music and playful sounds accompany the visit.
How we built it
Built solo with TypeScript, React, Next.js, WebRTC, Canvas and Web Audio. Reactor's LingBot World 2 generates the visible world from an original starting image, movement commands and wish prompts. Server-side session tokens keep the API key off the client. Postcards capture actual received video frames, browser storage keeps the album, and Web Audio creates the music and effects.
Challenges and lessons
Capacity, latency and character drift affect the experience. We added short visits, clear connection states, visible input feedback and a recorded backup. Players label their own photos; there is no automatic image judging. Exact wishes, navigation and character consistency are not guaranteed.
Accomplishments
We completed live safari playthroughs and three-postcard albums. Bubbles visibly appeared after a Bubble party wish, and camera views changed after movement and turning. Generative exploration now has a simple goal and a keepsake.
What's next
More reliable availability, stronger visual continuity, more discovery challenges and persistent hosting.
Demo notes
The cover is the original AI-generated starting image; live scenery can evolve away from it. The live link is a temporary Cloudflare tunnel and requires the demo computer to stay online. Use the recorded playthrough if Reactor has no capacity. The published video is an earlier build; the current game adds clearer control highlights and input cues.
