Inspiration: The Power of Sincere Love

I was deeply inspired by the opera's core theme: the power of sincere love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. The story of Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei is not just a romance; it's a philosophical exploration of desire, dreams, and the ultimate triumph of genuine emotion over physical reality. I wanted to visualize this dreamlike journey—from the youthful longing in the garden to the spectral yearning in the afterlife and the final, joyous reunion. My visual inspiration was drawn from the materiality of classical Chinese books. I studied color palettes from Ming dynasty texts and incorporated elements of traditional printing and calligraphic layout to give the video a feeling of a cherished, ancient manuscript coming to life.

What it does

This project is a digital homage to "The Peony Pavilion" (牡丹亭), one of China's most celebrated classical operas by Tang Xianzu. I created a video that reimagines this timeless love story through a fusion of AI-generated art, original music, and traditional aesthetic principles. The final piece is a visual and auditory journey that seeks to capture the ethereal and transcendent nature of a love so profound it conquers even death.

How we built it

The project was built using a modern, AI-assisted workflow that respected the classical source material.

1. Visual Creation (Dreamina AI): I used detailed prompts to generate the visuals. T
2. Musical Soundscape (Suno AI): The original score was composed by Suno. I directed it to create a soundscape that blended Guqin with ambient electronic textures, aiming for a mood that was both ancient and dreamlike. The goal was to have the music feel like a character in the story, echoing Du Liniang's emotional state.
3. Editing and Integration (Capcut): All elements were woven together in CapCut.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge lay in balancing AI-generated content with artistic control and traditional authenticity.

· Musical Cohesion: The initial Suno composition was good, but I felt it lacked the profound, introspective quality of a real Guqin. The decision to switch to a new piece mid-project was a major hurdle. Re-syncing the entire visual narrative to a new musical timeline was like solving a complex puzzle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The final video is a testament to the idea that love—and art—can bridge any divide, be it between life and death or between the classical and the digital.

This project was a profound lesson in synthesis. I learned how to act as a director for AI tools, guiding them to serve a traditional artistic vision
