Dream I Can’t Defend began with an idea: how modern life often feels like being caught in a tangle of conflicting narratives, each pushing an agenda that doesn’t make sense. These are the rabbit holes we fall into; distortions of truth that twist our sense of reality if we’re not careful.
To bring that feeling to life, I turned to the world of my novels. My Bards of Dirn character, Chaise Aderyn of Whispers from the Weald, became the lens through which the journey unfolds. In this video, he is drawn into a Wonderland of madness, chasing answers through shifting illusions, and fighting to reclaim himself before the dream consumes him completely.
The creative process spanned multiple tools and layers:
Suno was used to give voice and melody to the lyrics, capturing both the haunting rhythm and surreal tone.
OpenArtAi helped develop the reference characters, grounding the visual design for the next stage, and was also excellent for changing script on the nightclub sign, very handy tool.
Midjourney transformed those references into cinematic imagery, weaving dreamlike scenes that mirror Wonderland’s disorientation.
Kling brought the movement to life, animating surreal sequences of shifting spaces and fractured characters.
DaVinci Resolve was then used to pull it all together, stitching audio and visual into a coherent narrative that dives deep yet remains tethered to Chaise’s perspective.
The result is a piece that blends literary worldbuilding with visual storytelling—a descent into dream, madness, and the fragile line between imagination and reality.
