My inspiration for this project came from making a "Thank you essential workers" sign. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to put a large "Thank you essential workers" sign in the window at my office. I was freehand drawing the letters and wished I could have traced a font. This would make it easier and obtain a better result.
There are so many events happening in the world right now where people are making signs so I am hoping this will help.
What it does
Helps the user make letters to create their own sign.
How I built it
I built the effect in Spark AR. I used photoshop for the images. I used scripting for the UI picker. I also used the Spark AR documentations, tutorials and Youtube to learn certain functionality.
Challenges I ran into
Sometimes the AR letter moves when trying to trace it so I added additional lines above and below the letter as markers if you need to reset your letter.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This was the biggest Spark AR project that I have built so far. It had the most assets and UI picker options. There 56 different type options.
What I learned
I learnt how to add a UI picker. I learnt how to create a world effect, as this was the first world effect I have created.
What's next for Draw your own sign
The addition of more fonts and images would be great.
