Inspiration

Where does creativity come from? The exquisite corpse was invented by the surrealists with this question in mind. Well that’s the highbrow version - it’s also just that silly game we used to play as kids.

What it does

It’s a naturally viral communal drawing game. Each player takes turns to draw part of a body, without seeing what the person before drew. At the end everyone gets to see the whole thing. It's a naturally multiplayer social game that I think (hope!) Reddit will love. It also makes great use of Phaser for the interactive drawing part, folding animation, pens and camera effects.

How we built it built this

Using Phaser of course! Phaser has been super useful for the both the drawing tool and the reveal of the final drawing. We decided to use Phaser's camera to move along the finished drawing which looks great, and because Phaser sped up the interactive part so much we had time to add things like a rainbow pen and redrawing the actual brush strokes on the final reveal.

Challenges we ran into

I hadn’t made anything with devvit before so that was hard. The game relies on multiple steps so wiring everything up together was hard to get my head around. Dealing with mobile and desktop is also tricky but I think we worked it all out in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The game feels really fun and all ties together with Reddit functionality really well. I keep getting distracted and start playing it instead of making it - usually a good sign! I really love watching the redraw when the final creature is revealed!

What we learned

The reddit platform is pretty amazing! You can do so much without using your own servers now which is great. Being able to use Phaser right there in Reddit is also incredible and creates SO MANY opportunities for interactive experiences and games.

What's next for Draw and fold over

I'd love to get the game out and being played by lots of people - it's quite fun just drawing myself but the whole point is that it is a communal game. I hope you all enjoy playing. Please continue my drawings!
