Inspiration

My friends and I kept watching anime draft Shorts (draft a team, bid $20 on mystery characters, build a fighter with $15) and arguing in the comments about who won. There was no way to actually play them together, so I built Draft Party.

What it does

Draft Party is a free browser game with six modes:

  • Role Draft: pull blind cards into roles that fit the anime, then vote on whose team wins.
  • Mystery Auction: $20 each to bid on secret characters with one clue per card.
  • Build a Character: $15 for four picks to build one fighter or an army.
  • Who Am I?: three clues per character, hardest first.
  • Imposter: everyone gets the same character except one.
  • Daily Draft: the same challenge for everyone each day, with a streak.

Play online with a 5-letter room code (friends can be in other countries) or pass one phone around. 921 characters from 40 anime, each with a researched tier and trait ratings. No sign-up.

How I built it

React, TypeScript, Tailwind and Vite on the front end; Cloudflare Workers with Durable Objects for the live rooms and D1 for accounts and the daily leaderboard. The Android app wraps the site as a Trusted Web Activity.

Challenges I ran into

Keeping online rooms fair and refresh-proof (you get your seat back if you drop), and researching consistent tiers for 921 characters so the votes have something real to argue about.

What's next

More anime and modes, translated store listings, and the Google Play release.
