It is hard to find the best doctor for you and your loved ones. There's multiple websites, multiple locations, multiple specialties- and who knows if all those doctors are even included in your insurance! Some of our team members have personally experienced the frustrating process of trying to find a specialist. Not only did we want to make this process simpler for everyone, we wanted to help them understand what might be going on with them medically, so that they could have an idea of where to turn to for further care.

What it does

Dr. Match first asks you about your symptoms, then creates suggestions of possible conditions you may have based on those symptoms. You can choose a condition you think most matches your presentation, and from there Dr. Match will find healthcare professionals that treat that condition and are included in your insurance coverage.

How we built it

Our team used Visual Studio Code to create this webpage, which demos a user's path throughout the symptom identification and physician-finding process.

Challenges we ran into

For some of our members, HTML and Visual Studio Code were new skills we hadn't learned yet. Even for members who had some experience with this type of code, there were still some roadblocks when trying to get the website to appear how we wanted it to. On top of this- one of our hacker's computers stopped taking a charge, so we had to do some peer coding on one computer for part of the project! We overcame many of these challenges as best we could, and supported each other along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to build a working website with basic functions in such a short period of time.

What we learned

This event has taught us a lot about what goes into designing and building a new application or website from scratch. We realized that there are a lot of ideas out there that have already been addressed in some way, so it can be hard to figure out how your idea/implementation differs from those already out there.

What's next for Dr. Match

We're hoping to keep building out this website so that it can help more people navigate the healthcare field.
