Inspiration

Climate change is a big issue in our world because it poses a significant threat to our planet, its ecosystems, and its inhabitants. These changes are primarily driven by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes, which release large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Even processes we don’t even think about in our daily lives, like home heating and electricity, have an impact. It is clear that as time goes on, we will see more and more natural disasters, extreme temperatures, and changes in the way we live. That’s why we made Dr. EcoBot.

What it does

Dr. Ecobot is a GPT-3 API based AI chatbot that can answer all your questions regarding climate change, like how you can reduce your carbon footprint, local eco-friendly businesses in Toronto, and eco-friendly product recommendations.

How we built it

We built it by using python, a discord bot, and the OpenAI API.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of technical debugging issues. API being down. Had to scale down expectations given lack of technical expertise.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Teamwork and collaboration. Overcoming problems and creating a product. We were able to learn a few things about the OpenAI API as well as Discord Bot development.

What we learned

Fundamentals of Python, how to integrate discord bot with OpenAI. How to use libraries (discord and aiohttp) and API keys.

What's next for Dr. EcoBot

Tune and train the chat bot in order to be more specific to climate change, personalize for user's personal information like location, number of household members, etc.
