What it does

Dr. Driver is an action for the Google Assistant the is free to download and use. It gets activated whenever the user asks the Google Assistant to talk to Dr. Driver. From there, Dr. Driver asks the user a series of questions regarding the Drunk Driving incident such as asking for the location of the car, to questions about the vehicle with the Drunk Driver such as the color of the vehicle, and the company of the vehicle. The Action makes use of this data to call Highway Patrol and automatically report the incident.

How we built it

We built it by utilizing Dialogflow and the Google Cloud Platform. Dialogflow was used to store in all the intents and entities, where different properties of the incident such as the vehicle brand to the color of vehicle. We used the Google Cloud Platforms to make use of the Cloud Natural Language API. We also integrated it with Trillio, to make the phone call to highway patrol.

Challenges we ran into

We initially used entities to look for location info. This would require us to manually enter all interstates and all of their exits. We then solved the problem by using data from the Google Maps API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a fully functioning google assistant app that can help improve the safety of drivers everywhere.

What we learned

We learned how to create a google assistant action by utilizing Dialogflow to develop our project. Furthermore through the test phrase segment of our entities, we also learned the magnitude of how important it is to have a variety of Test Phrases in our Action.

What's next for Dr. Driver

Next For Dr. Driver we plan on expanding the services, Dr. Driver is compatible with. We could extend the functionality to different Smart Speakers such as Amazon's Alexa through creating Alexa Skills. Furthermore, we could expand the functionality to systems such as Android Auto and Apple's Car play to make it easier for the user to report a Drink Driving Incident.
