Inspiration
During this time in lockdown, many of us might feel stress and anxiety from the uncertainty and overwhelmingness. As a result, skincare has never been more of a problem for many people around the world. However, the majority of the population does not know enough about the safety and specifics of skincare products. In addition, it is worth mentioning that everyone is different, so not all skincare products work well for everyone in the population. As such, we found it important to create a program that would help people make the right decisions when it comes to choosing skincare products. That's how we came up with Dr. Derma!
What it does
Dr. Derma is a program that can provide recommendations on skincare products. By using information from a well-detailed survey, Dr. Derma can gather a list of skincare products that would best suit a specific user.
How we built it
In order to present the idea, we used Google Slides and a video presentation. To show a simple sample of what Dr. Derma can do, we wrote code in java. The inputs and outputs of the program from the sample code can also be seen in the video. We also used proto.io to display how we would envision Dr. Derma on a website or phone app. Although we have a somewhat-finished product, we believe the idea is very original and can help many who suffer from various skincare troubles.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
We are proud of coming up with a simple, yet innovative idea. We did not run into many challenges with the code and we found it fairly easy to execute and present our idea. Since skincare is a pertinent problem, we are especially happy to have created something that can have a lasting, positive impact on many people around the world.
What we learned
We learned that patience is necessary in many forms. For example, it took us all a while to come up with the idea of a helpful skincare program. But once we thought of Dr. Derma, we realized it could be a revolutionary program to positively change many people's lives. We also worked with proto.io, but had to patiently wait through laggy periods from time to time. Most importantly, we learned how to engage in the creative process and work together as a team to accomplish our idea. We collaborate a lot at school, and have even participated in another hackathon as a team, but we all think we worked best this event and improved our teamwork skills. Even through brief periods of disagreement, we were able to maintain our team spirit and create something we are all proud of.
What's next for Dr. Derma
Dr. Derma has a big future ahead! We will add more products to our database and survey more questions to collect even more accurate information and thus recommend the best possible skincare product for the specific user.
