Inspiration

DownTown RP was inspired by small-town life, mobile roleplay games, and classic RP servers where players create their own stories. We wanted a cozy town that feels alive but is still simple and quick to understand on a phone.

What it does

DownTown RP is a social roleplay town built in Meta Horizon Worlds and playable on mobile. Up to 16 players, drive 10 vehicles, visit 20+ enterable buildings, meet 16 NPCs, and use 18 animations to act out scenes.

How we built it

We built the world with the Horizon Worlds editor, using modular streets and buildings to keep the town readable from a mobile camera. Scripts handle vehicles, doors, and NPC interactions, while careful optimization keeps performance stable with many players driving and exploring at once.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenges were performance and clarity. Balancing a large open map, detailed interiors, and moving vehicles on mobile required constant profiling, and we had to simplify layouts, UI, and interactions so they stayed comfortable on small touch screens.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that almost every corner of the town has a purpose: shops you can enter, clear job areas, and simple systems that encourage spontaneous roleplay. The mix of NPCs and animations helps players instantly understand their role without long tutorials.

What we learned

We learned how important clear silhouettes, icons, and color coding are for mobile roleplay. Consistent interaction patterns and simple navigation paths reduce confusion and help new players quickly find interesting places and activities.

What’s next for DownTown RP

Next, we plan to expand with new jobs, vehicles, and light progression systems such as tasks, achievements, and soft economy loops. We also want richer NPC behavior and small mini-games inside buildings to keep the town replayable.
