Inspiration

Many people want to buy products they need, but paying the full price at once can be difficult. This is especially common for students and young people who have limited income but still need important products such as laptops, phones, appliances, and other essentials.

We wanted to create a simpler way for people to turn small, regular savings into ownership of a specific product.

That idea led to DOVI Save2Own — a system that allows a person to choose a product, create a savings goal for it, contribute gradually, and eventually own the product.

The idea is simple: Save for what you want. Own it when you're ready.

What it does

DOVI Save2Own connects saving directly to a specific product.

Instead of simply saving money without a clear target, a user selects a product and creates a Save2Own goal. The system shows the product price, savings target, contribution progress, and remaining amount.

Users can:

  • Choose a product they want to own
  • Create a personal savings goal
  • Make regular contributions
  • Track their progress toward the product
  • View their contribution history
  • Pause or resume their goal
  • Adjust their contribution plan when necessary
  • Complete the goal when the required amount is reached
  • Convert their completed savings goal into product ownership

The concept is designed to make saving feel more purposeful, transparent, and achievable.

How we built it

We approached DOVI Save2Own as a product and systems innovation rather than simply a shopping feature.

We designed the experience around three connected stages:

Choose → Save → Own

A user first chooses a product, then creates a structured savings goal around that product. The system tracks the user's contributions and progress until the goal is completed.

The concept was designed around a secure and scalable architecture using authentication, a structured database, controlled user permissions, transaction records, and product information.

We also designed different goal states such as active, paused, completed, cancelled, product unavailable, and price changed so that real-world situations can be handled instead of assuming that every savings journey goes perfectly.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was designing a system that remains simple for the user while accounting for the complexity behind product prices, savings contributions, product availability, cancellations, and changing circumstances.

We also had to think carefully about trust.

When money is being saved toward a product, users need to understand where their money is going, how much they have contributed, how much remains, and what happens if the product becomes unavailable or its price changes.

Another challenge was designing Save2Own so that it would not simply become another payment or savings platform. The core experience needed to remain focused on one clear outcome: helping people move from wanting a product to actually owning it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of turning a simple idea — saving toward a product — into a structured product concept with a complete user journey.

We developed a clear Save2Own lifecycle covering the journey from creating a goal to completing it and eventually converting the completed goal into product ownership.

We are also proud of designing for real-world situations such as paused goals, cancelled goals, price changes, unavailable products, and payment reviews.

Most importantly, we created an idea that combines e-commerce, purposeful saving, and financial accessibility into one experience.

What we learned

This project taught us that innovation does not always require creating something completely unfamiliar.

Sometimes innovation comes from connecting existing behaviors in a better way.

People already shop. People already save. DOVI Save2Own connects those two behaviors around a specific goal.

We also learned the importance of designing for real-life situations rather than only the ideal user journey. Building a useful product means thinking about what happens when a user changes their mind, cannot contribute for a period of time, or when the product itself changes.

What's next for DOVI Save2Own

Our next step is to validate the concept with real users and understand which products and contribution patterns would be most useful to them.

We want to further develop the system with secure payment processing, product availability management, transparent savings records, notifications, and a seamless path from completed savings goal to product delivery.

Our long-term vision is to make it easier for people to acquire products they need without feeling pressured to pay the entire amount upfront.

DOVI Save2Own: Save for what you want. Own it when you're ready.
