Inspiration
Who dominates the other: man or A.I.? This reflection was less of a starting point. That's how I imagined this modern Pinocchio: an AI clone who dreams of becoming a real human and no longer the toy of his own. A modern tale about the duality of artificial intelligence
How I built it
I asked ChatGPT to help me develop the concept. It gave me some directions, interesting, though not fully convincing, which made me reflect further, and in the end, I wrote the script myself. Then I generated my two protagonists and locations mainly with Reve, Nano Banana, Seedream and ChatGPT. Most of the time, I worked in stages: first generating an image of my character with the right mood and outfit, then placing it into a prepared setting to ensure consistency (camera angle, lighting, time of day) before animating it. This sometimes meant sacrificing certain cinematic effects in order not to lose consistency. My story didn’t allow for much visual fantasy or approximation. And I generated all my shots on Freepik (mainly Seedance and Kling) and Flow, using ChatGPT when needed for French-to-English translations or prompt writing.
Challenges I ran into
How can you maintain narrative logic with a tool, AI, that, by definition, is unpredictable? That was my main challenge with this film. I wanted to avoid surreal scenes filled with improbable characters. My goal was clear: to convey an idea, a precise storyline, real emotions, through artificial characters. The biggest challenge was ensuring the narrative coherence. Consistency of the characters, their clothing, the unity of place and time, and fluidity in transitions. Everything that AI tends to reinvent from one shot to another had to be carefully anticipated and “framed.” The videos were created primarily with text-to-video and ingredients-to-video, which allowed me to main- tain continuity in terms of characters, locations, and time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very proud to have managed to make this film entirely on my own, from the casting to the final editing, without having ever done this before, and in around ten days.
What I learned
I learned a lot about prompt engineering techniques, of course. But I also learned to trust myself. I jumped in without knowing if I had the skills to pull it off, and I succeeded.
What's next for Double Je
Beyond the technical performance, I hope that this film will encourage its viewers to reflect on the vast subject of AI and the place it occupies and will occupy in our societies of tomorrow.
