Inspiration

According to a Romanian Police declaration, during 2018 over 1000 bicycles were stolen and only 174 were recovered. The theft-proof locks available on market can be cut away in few than 5 minutes with the proper tools. The most secure locks are heavy and uncomfortable to carry on, but even so, they are not theft-proof

Or bicycle parking systems offer safe bicycle lockers managed by a mobile application.

How does it work

Download our mobile app, register and login. A map with all the available parking slots will be displayed on the main screen, along with an QR code for a lock operation. Go to a parking lot, scan the QR on the parking lot scanner, and a free slot will be opened.
Lock your bike, close the lock and another QR code for your bike unlock operation will be available. The first 30 minutes of parking usage are free of charge. After the first 30 minutes, a 0.05 RON fee per minute will be charged.

The system is very easy to use, self-explanatory and requires minimum effort and amount of money in order to assure present rides without extra carriage and worries.

How we built it

The software was developed using Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database, Ionic Framework and Angular for the mobile app, .Net MVC. The software controls a hardware system containing 4 main components: the controller, the industrial computer, one lock, one QR code scanner. Other assets used for the POC: one bike rack bought from Decathlon (to be returned), 1m industrial chain, duck tape and cardboard boxes, one mobile phone .
