Inspiration The idea for Dosti Connect was inspired by the need for a personalized, user-friendly social networking platform that prioritizes secure interactions and engaging experiences. We aimed to create a space where people can connect, share, and communicate seamlessly while ensuring their data remains secure.
What It Does Dosti Connect is a social media platform that allows users to: Create accounts with secure authentication and email verification. Manage profiles with customizable settings, including light/dark mode. Send, accept, and manage friend requests while viewing friend suggestions. Share posts, like, and comment on content. Chat in real-time and receive activity notifications. Search for other users using the search bar.
How We Built It We developed Dosti Connect using the MERN stack: Frontend: Built with React.js for dynamic user interfaces and state management. Backend: Developed using Node.js and Express.js to handle server-side operations and API endpoints. Database: MongoDB was used to manage user data, posts, and connections securely. Features: Email verification and password reset were implemented using third-party email services, and responsive UI was designed for accessibility across devices.
Challenges We Ran Into Implementing the friend suggestion feature and optimizing its algorithm. Managing state efficiently in a dynamic environment. Ensuring seamless client-server communication for real-time chat. Debugging email verification and password reset workflows.
