Inspiration

Vaccine centers and clinics have a spare dose of vaccines as a safety net. These vaccines are later discarded without being fully utilized.

In light of this, we would like to help vaccine centers and clinics to utilize these vaccine doses by notifying interested individuals living nearby to take these spare vaccines (at a cheaper price), with a goal to save the environment and save lives.

What it does

For individuals from low-income backgrounds

Individuals can register their interest (which vaccine) using through the app, the apps will track users' GPS location and text users via SMS/ in-app notification when there is a spare vaccine dose available nearby. Alternatively, users can input a location and location radius.

Individuals can choose to accept or turn down spare vaccine dose invitation. The app will send a confirmation message to individuals and users can press open Google map to navigate to the clinic/ vaccine center. Invitations will fade after 5 mins.

For clinics/ vaccine centers

Vaccine centers and clinics can register and use the dashboard to keep track of vaccine dosage and bookings. Once there are spare vaccines, clinic/ vaccine centers can release a spot and notify individuals nearby.

How we built it

  • Web front-end development using React

  • Mobile app development using React-native

  • Backend development using Python and Google Cloud Platform

Challenges we ran into

Our goals were ambitious (web app plus mobile app), and the time crunch was a challenge

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a functional prototype! In a short span of time!

What we learned

We learnt a lot about web and mobile app development using react and react-native

What's next for DoseSaver

  • Allow users to specify their free time for vaccine

  • Rank users in order of needs
