Our project, “Dorm Games”, is a minigame server that allows any number of players to play minigames and compete for a winner. The inspiration for making this game was the community on our dorm floor. We wanted to be able to give them all access to fun party games that could be played by many people at once. The functional inspiration for our project was Jackbox games and Kahoot, with their cloud servers that connect phones to a TV screen. To build this project, we used Node.js and HTML to host the server for all of the minigames. The largest challenge was connecting the phones to the server because there were firewalls built into the internet. We switched to using a hotspot to run the server, which fixed the problem and allowed all the phones to connect. The next challenge we faced was utilizing the gyroscope sensor in the phones to control the games. This was fixed by tunneling it through another website and adding a button to enable the gyroscope for each game. After the connection was set up, we were able to add many more games. These games all utilize phone motion in different ways.
