Inspiration

We were inspired/motivated by the lack of transparent accessibility in Higher Institutions. We thought a website that succinctly put information on university polices for accessible living and scored the universities might be helpful for incoming Freshman students.

What it does

Scores some of the most popular universities in Southern California based on the accessibility of their highest ranked freshman dorms. Has a map feature that shows the dorms location in relation to other places on a specific campus. Also, allows reviews from students of each university so that scores can be updated by the site moderators.

How we built it

We created a basic website with clickable images in html. We then stylized the websites look with css. Google cloud api services was used to add the maps for each school. The review section, based on the html workshop from Saturday, uses Javascript and holds all reviews in a local storage.

Challenges we ran into

Since it was all of our first times using html, there was a sharp learning curve in the beginning. We lost a lot of time reading documentation and watching videos in the beginning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a couple accomplishment that we feel very proud of. Firstly when we joined the html workshop that was the first time we ever learned about html and css. We knew we want to implement that into our project, hence we decided to code our website using html and css. Another thing we manage to do is execute google's API into out website to tell user the locations for each schools we review. We had the mentors to guide us through this process and we manage to perform it. Overall every single step that we did to finish the project is considered huge because we didn't think we would finish it on time.

What we learned

We learned a lot throughout the whole process. Teamwork was very important in order to make our vision came true. We just met a day ago but we manage to listen to each others feedback and implement each others ideas for our project. We also learned a lot during each workshops that we attend especially how to get started with html.

What's next for Dorm Score

The next innovation for Dorm Score is to gather as much reviews as we can from more schools around California. We want to make it as informational as possible to the people who needs it most.
