Inspiration

As students, we understand how difficult it can be to stay motivated and focused on goals. A poll conducted in a Discord server of university students revealed that 70% struggle with staying focused and maintaining motivation. Many students feel disconnected from their learning, and 63% report disengagement in school. This inspired us to create DoraKingdom, a platform designed to make learning fun, social, and rewarding, helping students stay motivated and connected while achieving their goals.

What it does

DoraKingdom is a gamified platform where students can:

  • Set goals and create personalized missions.
  • Complete quests with AI-generated tasks that guide them step by step.
  • Earn badges and compete on a leaderboard.
  • Share their progress and roadmaps with a supportive community of learners.

We turn learning into a game, making it easier to stay motivated, achieve goals, and be part of a community.

Features

  • Public and Private Missions: Users can make their missions either public or private based on their preferences.
  • Daily Check-In: A feature that encourages users to maintain a streak and stay productive.
  • Pomodoro Timer: Focus on tasks and missions with the Pomodoro technique to improve productivity.
  • Leaderboard: Users can compete on the leaderboard and earn badges as a reward for their progress.
  • Weekly Challenges: Weekly challenges help bring the community closer together.
  • Comment Section: Every public post has a comment section where users can post their opinions and chat with others to help each other out.

How we built it

We used:

  • Next.js for a fast, interactive website.
  • Firebase for user authentication and data management.
  • Gemini AI to create personalized quests for students.
  • Vercel for seamless hosting and access anytime.

Challenges we ran into

  • Making AI-generated quests meaningful: Ensuring that the tasks were practical and helped students achieve their goals effectively.
  • Balancing simplicity with fun: Designing a platform that is easy to use while keeping it engaging took a lot of effort.

Accomplishments we're proud of

  • Integrating Gemini AI to automate and personalize quests.
  • Creating a community-driven platform where students can learn, share, and grow together.
  • Building a simple, fun, and effective way for students to set goals and track their progress.

What we learned

We learned that gamification in education can significantly increase student engagement. Turning education into a social, rewarding experience can change the way students approach learning and make it more enjoyable.

  • Enhanced AI: Offering deeper insights into students' progress.
  • New Social Features: Adding community challenges and live chat to enhance interaction.
