Dope Algebra

Inspiration

I wanted a projected that was fun and enjoyable and was reminded by my sibling of a website we always got on as kids. So in I present DopeAlgebra as a fun variation of CoolMath games. If you did not have joy in your childhood, CoolMath is a site with a culmination of fun games. Hands-down the top two games being Run and the water girl and fire boy game. The goal for DopeAlgebra was to create a space to play fun mini games where users could also create and play their own mini games using generative AI.

What it does

Currently the user can log on and see games on their games feed (please note the one's showing currently are "stand-ins" and not real games). The user can also chat with Cat-rina, the truly adorable chat bot, who can help the user build the mini game of their dreams by generating code for their game based on the description they provide.

How we built it

I built this application using Temp Labs for the initial wireframing and base app creation and then used CodeBuff to start working on the game creation and chat features.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into quite a few errors trying to build this application on only AI. Overall it went swell but then it got to parts where it wouldn't build properly. For instance, while using Tempo Labs I ran into issues where it didn't understand some basic syntax and it took me some time to find the error and correct it myself. Then for Codebuff, my pain came when I was trying to build the game previewer. Goal: use the generated code to build the game on browser for user to view and use. Outcome: Found out that pygame does not work fully on browser so I switched from python code generation to javascript generation. I feel like my lack of knowledge hindered my ability to request appropriate fixes and features from the AI but the code is being generated -("/)-

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Honestly I had a great time learning how to use Tempo Labs and Codebuff and am excited to see what I can learn about them in the future. Oh and I got the yelling cat meme included too.

What's next for Dope Algebra

Get the game previews to work and add the games to the platform. Then users and more boring things but the minigames are for sure going to work soon.
