Inspiration
The project was inspired by the social neuropsychological prompt, which lead to the analysis of the social issues of substance use, behavioral addictions, and stigma.
What it does
Through this website, knowledge mobilization was increased, and the neurocircuitry of different brain states was appropriately simplified and displayed in an engaging manner. The brain is visualized in 3D, allowing the inspection of parts of the brain that are implicated in behavioral addictions and other brain states.
How we built it
We built this project with the following stack: Framework: ExpressJS, Pug Languages: Pug: JavaScript, Python, CSS Library's: ThreeJS, JSON
Challenges we ran into
Finding a good free brain model was challenging and took up a lot of our time. It was worth it because having a good 3D brain is the main feature and it being anatomical correct is very important to us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a very visual interactive learning tool in only 2 days. Our team has never worked with 3D models before and we worked together to bring our educational knowledge (CS and neuroscience) together.
What we learned
We all learned more about how the brain works in response to activity and habits. From a technical point of view we learned more about front-end using JavaScript and using 3d models inside of a website.
What's next for Doomed To Scroll
We would like to make the project more detailed and more education orientated. With the time span of a weekend this isn't possible but moving forward we would like to create an even more accurate and powerful tool.
