Inspiration
We were inspired by how easily doomscrolling becomes a default behaviour. Modern platforms are designed to maximize attention, reinforcing these habits without users actively realizing it.
Rather than trying to reduce this behaviour, we wanted to explore what would happen if we embraced it!
What it does
Doomagotchi is a Chrome extension Tamagotchi pet that reacts to your browsing behavior in real time.
Your pet gains health when you visit doomscrolling sites like TikTok, Discord, or X, and loses health when you open productive tools like Google Docs, Canvas, or Gmail.
How we built it
🧩 Chrome extension using JavaScript
⭐ Google Gemini to generate dialogue, giving the pet a silly personality
💡 Twilio to send text message reminders to the user
⚙️ WebSockets to connect backend Tamagotchi health updates to the frontend
