đ Inspiration
The idea for DoodleMagic was born from a simple but powerful observation: kids love to draw, and their imagination is limitless. We wanted to build something that could take a childâs crayon sketch and turn it into a short animated storyâsomething magical, joyful, and emotionally memorable for both kids and their parents.
With recent advancements in generative AI, especially models like Google's Veo 3, we saw an opportunity to bring drawings to life using video, without needing a studio or technical know-how.
đ ď¸ How We Built It
- Frontend: The MVP was built using https://bolt.new to quickly prototype UI, gather user input (drawings, character info, tone), and preview the video.
- Video Generation: We used the
google/veo-3model hosted on Replicate to generate high-quality 8-second animations from text prompts + image context. - Payments: Stripe was used to set up pricing and monetization.
đ What We Learned
- Working with cutting-edge video generation models like Veo 3 is both powerful and expensive. Managing prompt length, duration, and output quality is critical.
- Simplicity matters. Parents donât want complex flowsâthey want to upload, customize, and see magic happen.
- Handling real-world media (drawings, photos, handwriting) adds unique challenges in design and preprocessing.
â ď¸ Challenges Faced
- Payment Restrictions: Stripe and Replicate have limitations for Indian users due to RBI compliance, which blocks purchases from outside India. This is why we're looking for a U.S.-based collaborator or workaround.
đ Whatâs Next
- Add more personalization (voiceovers, emotion tone).
- Expand to educators and creators.
- Seek grants or credits (e.g., Replicate, Google Cloud, government support) to scale affordably.
