Inspiration - Before Haim and Karen met, Karen suffered an ankle injury in her left foot, specifically a tear in her peroneus brevis tendon. It caused her to not only walk slowly but also take a break from all of her physical activities for weeks. After getting an MRI done, she was referred to a surgeon. He recommended surgery, noting her young age and very active nature. Having worked at a hospital innovation center, she requested that she take some time to try physical therapy and other treatments before undergoing surgery. Her surgeon agreed that this was an option and that she could give herself a few months before scheduling an appointment. That's when Karen's recovery journey began.
RecoverInj is the platform she wishes for herself and others to support them as they take the impactful steps to get back on their feet, both literally and figuratively. Karen's case is a perfect example of how informed decisions can make a difference in one's treatment plan and help avoid surgery. As Haim and Karen, now engaged, prepare to walk down the aisle together on July 3, 2025, she looks forward to dancing the night away just as she used to do before her injury.
What it does - RecoverInj provides a platform for both healthcare providers and patients to support the recovery journey of injured individuals who are willing to try alternative treatments instead of undergoing surgery. It has a place to track one's progress as well as input medications, define treatment goals, and store exercises to provide a one-stop shop to keep healthcare providers and patients organized.
How we built it - After refining our technical requests, we used Bolt's platform to help enhance the language of the instructions we input into the prompt and then added a few finishing touches, including Bolt's badge.
Challenges we ran into - Initially, we got an error when we tried to run the prompt. This was resolved after a few days when we input the information into the system again.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - This application is simple, user-friendly, and thorough. It also safeguards patients' data and can be upgraded.
What we learned - Sometimes you have to run the same request twice.
What's next for RecoverInj - There is a lot of potential to use artificial intelligence once enough patients are active on the platform. Past patient data can then be incorporated to inform treatment recommendations and decisions by healthcare providers.
