Inspiration

The global challenges of poverty, disease, and natural disasters, along with the need for support of open-source projects, highlight the inefficiencies in traditional donation systems. Donors are increasingly concerned about where their contributions go and whether they effectively address the intended issues. The conventional donation model suffers from high fees, opaque fund flows, and low efficiency, especially in cross-border transactions. These issues inspired us to leverage blockchain technology to create a transparent, secure, and efficient donation platform.

What it Does

DonorSphere is a blockchain-based donation platform designed to provide a safe, transparent, and efficient way for donors to contribute directly to beneficiaries. It ensures that donations are used for their intended purposes by storing donation records on an immutable blockchain, viewable by the public. This reduces the potential for fraud and misuse. DonorSphere also supports cross-border donations using cryptocurrency, eliminating high fees from traditional financial institutions and ensuring more funds reach charitable causes. Smart contracts automate the donation process, releasing funds when specific conditions are met.

How We Built It

We built DonorSphere using blockchain technology to ensure transparency and security. Smart contracts on the blockchain automate the donation process and ensure that funds are released according to the donors' wishes. We also integrated multiple cryptocurrencies to facilitate cross-border donations and reduce transaction fees. The platform includes a user-friendly interface for both donors and beneficiaries to track donations and manage contributions efficiently.

Challenges We Ran Into

One of the significant challenges we faced was ensuring the security and integrity of the donation records on the blockchain. Additionally, integrating multiple cryptocurrencies and ensuring smooth cross-border transactions required addressing various regulatory and technical issues. Another challenge was creating a user-friendly interface that would be accessible to both tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy users.
