We were inspired by the struggles Thalassemia patients face in finding timely blood donors, often depending on last-minute calls and uncertainty. To solve this, we built a smart mobile app that allows donors to select their available dates and notifies patients or coordinators in advance, using GPS and manual search to match donors with transfusion needs. The app was developed using React Native for the frontend and Node.js with MongoDB for the backend, along with Google Maps API and Firebase for location and real-time notifications. While building the app, we faced challenges like ensuring accurate GPS-based matching, supporting users in low-connectivity areas, and maintaining data privacy. Still, we’re proud to have created a working prototype that connects patients with donors proactively, reducing stress and wait times. Through this, we learned the value of simple UX in healthcare apps, secure data handling, and how real-time tech can improve lives. Moving forward, we aim to integrate hospital blood banks, add emergency features, live donor tracking, and expand the platform nationwide.
