Jellyfish: Your Personalized Donation Experience with NALAM

Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of telling the stories of the girls at NALAM, to make donors feel that they are part of the story and inspire donors to contribute!

What it does

Our personalized donor portal lets donors 1) choose donation projects based on their personal preference, so they are invested in their contribution, 2) see progress updates, photos and messages from the gift recipients, to help donors feel the joy of knowing whose life they have changed!

How we built it

We built this project with React, JavaScript, Tailwind CSS, and React Router for a quick and user-friendly setup. React, a popular library, paired with Tailwind CSS, streamlines styling without manual CSS coding. React Router facilitates dynamic routing for a seamless user experience, and our tech stack benefits from extensive community support and optimized performance for deployment.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Deciding which problem and user to focus on
  2. Understanding which problems can be solved with technology
  3. How to balance making donors feel connected to the girls while protecting the girls' privacy
  4. We initially used Next.js, a framework with which we had limited familiarity. To ensure an accurate representation of our team’s innovative designs and ideas, we swiftly pivoted to Create React App, allowing us to easily establish the foundational elements without the constraints of our previous tool.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Identifying opportunity areas and action items for NALAM to drive donor engagement
  2. Coming together as a team, with everyone able to bring in their unique contribution based on their experiences across product design, user research, product management and software development

What's next for Donor engagement

  1. Reporting dashboards for admins to track key donors, donor retention, and amount and frequency of donations
  2. Ability for donors to set up a recurring donation to a specific type of project (education, medical, vocational training, etc) and have their recurring amount automatically assigned to various projects
  3. Automated creation of tax forms for donors
  4. Currency conversion based on the user's location
