## Inspiration
We noticed a gap in the way traditional to-do apps serve users: they act like notebooks, not assistants. You’re still on your own when it comes to doing the actual work. Even worse, they make task entry tedious and provide little insight into your progress or growth. We wanted to reimagine the to-do app for the modern, multitasking user.
## What we built
Done‑Assist is a next-gen productivity tool that goes beyond listing tasks—it actively helps users complete them. With audio-first task capture, AI/human assistance modes, automatic reporting, and post-generation for platforms like LinkedIn and X, it serves as a work partner and a storytelling engine.
## How we built it
We designed modular features around the full lifecycle of a task:
- Voice-first onboarding helps build a user profile with strengths and areas needing support.
- Smart task capture uses AI to parse voice or text inputs.
- Assistance engine routes tasks to AI agents or human collaborators.
- Completion flow includes tracking time spent, learning notes, and who assisted.
- Gamified incentives reward users and collaborators.
- Insight reports summarize progress.
- Content generator lets users turn their week into a LinkedIn post.
## What we learned
People don’t just want to manage work—they want to complete it, share it, and feel seen. Also, simplifying the entry process increases task creation rates. Voice is powerful. So is accountability. AI isn’t just about automation—it’s about enablement.
## Challenges we faced
- Balancing complexity with usability
- Designing an intuitive UX for both AI and human assistance
- Creating a flexible data model that could handle different task sources and outcomes
- Making reporting feel insightful, not overwhelming
- Ensuring content generation captured the tone and personality of each user
