Food Surplus Redistribution Platform Inspiration
Every day, millions of people go hungry while tons of food from restaurants, events, and households are wasted. I was inspired to tackle SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by finding a solution that is simple, scalable, and technology-driven. I wanted to create something that could directly connect surplus food with those in need using AI and no-code tools.
What I Learned
How no-code platforms like Lovable can be used to build real-world applications quickly.
How AI can enhance social impact projects by generating actionable alerts.
Basics of end-to-end application design: front-end, back-end, and workflow logic.
The importance of user experience and clarity in apps aimed at NGOs and donors.
How I Built It
Frontend: Used Lovable to create:
Donor submission form (food type, quantity, location, expiry)
NGO view for viewing available donations
Backend & AI: Integrated AI into Lovable to automatically generate pickup alerts based on food type, quantity, location, and expiry time.
Workflow:
Donor submits food → AI generates alert → NGO sees listing in real-time
Deployment: Published live on Lovable for immediate testing and demonstration.
Challenges Faced
Working Solo: Designing both the app and AI workflow by myself within hackathon constraints.
AI Alert Logic: Ensuring AI messages reflected urgency based on expiry time.
No-Code Limitations: Learning how to implement database and workflow logic in Lovable without traditional coding.
Impact
Provides a real-world solution to food waste and hunger.
Demonstrates how no-code + AI can be used to address social problems effectively.
Scalable to include restaurants, events, multilingual support, and SMS notifications.
